Who it's for

Built for how Sri Lankans actually earn.

If your income looks like one of these, you can file through LankanTax.

💼 Most common

LKR salary earners

Employed in Sri Lanka and paid in rupees.

If APIT is already deducted from your payslip, you may still need to file. We handle salary, allowances, EPF/ETF, and any second source of income like FD interest or part-time work.

🌏 Common & tricky

Foreign currency earners

Paid in USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, or SGD — remote work, freelance, or overseas employer.

Forex conversions, source documentation, and tax treaty considerations matter here. We translate your foreign income into the right LKR figures and your CA reviews the result.

🏖 Often overlooked

Retirees

Pension, FD interest, gratuity payments.

FD interest and pension income often need filing even if tax was deducted at source. We cover withholding tax credits, gratuity treatment, and multiple bank accounts.

🏠 Multi-source income

Landlords

Income from one or more rental properties.

Rental income, allowable deductions, repairs, and if you also have salary income — we cover all of it. Upload tenancy agreements and bank statements; your CA computes the rest.

Why most Sri Lankans don't file alone.

Filing yourself is technically free. But "free" isn't the same as easy.

Frequently asked

The questions you're probably thinking.

Is it actually free? +

Yes. Filing through LankanTax is free for you — account, data entry, document upload, generating your tax file, sending it to a CA. We don't charge individuals. Your CA charges their own professional fee for reviewing and lodging your return, which you see upfront before you pick them.

Why do I need a CA at all? +

For individual income tax returns in Sri Lanka, a qualified accountant reviews and lodges your return to the IRD. Software is great at organising your data; a CA brings judgement, catches errors, and stands behind the lodgement. We split the work accordingly — we do the data, they do the lodgement.

What if my CA isn't on LankanTax yet? +

That's fine. When you finish filling in your details, we'll send your CA an invite link. They sign up, review your return, and lodge it. They get a clean, structured file instead of the usual WhatsApp document chase — most CAs we've spoken to are happy to receive their clients this way.

How much does a CA usually charge? +

For a typical individual return, CAs in our directory charge between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 12,000, depending on complexity (multiple income sources, foreign currency, rentals add more). The fee is shown on each CA's profile before you pick them — no surprises.

I'm paid in foreign currency — can I still file here? +

Yes. We support USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, SGD, and most major currencies. We compute the LKR equivalent using the appropriate exchange rate for each income event, and your CA reviews the result. Pick a CA who specialises in foreign-income filings — you can filter the directory for this.

What about my tax data — will I have access later? +

You'll receive a copy of your filed return by email once your CA lodges it — that's yours to keep. If you want year-over-year access on LankanTax, your CA can invite you back next filing season and your history will be available through them.

Is my data safe? +

Yes. Your information is encrypted at rest and in transit. We don't sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to train AI models. We comply with Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act. Only the CA you choose can see your file — and only after you send it to them.

Do I really need to file? My employer already deducts APIT. +

Possibly. If you have a single salary and APIT covers your tax fully, you may not need to file. But if you have FD interest, rental income, foreign income, multiple employers, or your APIT didn't fully cover your liability — you do need to file. When in doubt, run through our forms (free, 15 minutes) and your CA will tell you whether you actually need to lodge.

The deadline is September 30.

Don't let it sneak up on you. Fifteen minutes today saves you a panicked weekend in September.
